WOODEN WHEEL
The title of this piece is "If I Were an Object". I did a candle, converse shoe, and a moon necklace. I tried to place them in a certain way that they would all be shown equally and not in an awkward way. I used value to distinguish the passage of light in the painting, and color by making most of it a neutral scheme. I used proportion by making the objects all at the same level and making sure the cloth looked behind it by a lot. I believe using a neutral color scheme really unified the piece and made the objects look like they really belonged together. I leaned the shoe against the candle and draped the necklace over the two to bring them together. I didn’t bring in a cloth so the fabric is what we had when we took the pictures.
The title of this piece is "Eli". It's a portrait of my nephew. I used value in his face to show the definition even though he just has a baby face, and color by making the background dark and his face bright. I used proportion by making the tree look far behind him and getting the values right so you could tell his face was turned to the side. I used movement in his hai because it was crazy and going in all directions. I didn’t bring in a cloth so the fabric is what we had when we took the pictures. I made sure to make sure his face was the first thing you looked at. I made the background pretty neutral and changed the color of his shirt so his face would stand out more.
Downfall
My subject matter is my legs hanging off the edge of a building, looking out into a skyline. The value of my leggings gives dimension to my legs, and gives my body form. The cool colors of the buildings give the piece a darkish theme. Keeping the same tones throughout the piece gives it balance. My feet being in two different positions shows the movement of them dangling off the edge. I put this piece in a first person perspective, so the viewer is seeing what would be right in front of them. I'm wearing checkered shoes, which are shoes I wear almost every day. I am attached to them, so I had to include them in this piece.
